Botsa joins YSR Congress

They were welcomed into YSR Congress Party by its president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy by offering them party scarves. Mr. Satyanarayana and his followers switched sides at YSRCP central office at Lotus Pond.

In a significant political development that is likely to have an impact on the forthcoming biennial elections to Local Bodies' Constituencies in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, former AP Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana along with a DCCB Chairperson, two formers MLAs, one former MP, several sitting MPTCs, MPPs and Sarpanches joined the YSR Congress here on Sunday.

They were welcomed into YSR Congress Party by its president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy by offering them party scarves. Mr. Satyanarayana along with his kin and followers switched sides to YSR Congress at its central office at Lotus Pond area here. His wife Botcha Jhansi Laxmi, a two-time former MP from Bobbili and Vizianagaram, his younger brother Botcha Appala Narasaiah, cousin B. Appala Naidu, Vizianagaram DCCB Chairperson Thulasi and a large number of district, constituency and mandal level leaders joined the YSR Congress along with them.

Mr. Satyanarayana's entry into the YSR Congress is likely to strengthen the party not only in Vizianagaram district but across the North Coastal Andhra as he enjoys a good following besides the advantage of representing the Thoorpu Kapu community, one of the leading communities having sway over politics and economy in the region.

Sources in the YSR Congress stated that Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy is likely to give appropriate responsibility to Mr. Satyanarayana to strengthen the party in the region, though some leaders with the party since its inception have opposed the former Congress bigwig's entry into YSR Congress.

Ironically, it was Mr. Satyanarayana, a close confidante of late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy when he was at the helm of affairs, led the Congress tirade against Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy after the latter left the grand old party and floated a new political outfit – YSR Congress in 2009, particularly during the period when Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was named accused in 11 quid pro quo investment cases being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Mr. Satyanarayana and all his kin lost the last elections to Assembly and Lok Sabha in which Congress was routed completely in AP following division of the State. Incidentally, Mr. Satyanarayana and his brother Appala Narsaiah were the only Congress candidates out of 175 party men in Andhra Pradesh to have retained deposits in last year's Assembly elections.

Coming days are likely to witness realignment of forces in the region with Mr. Satyanarayana joing the YSR Congress.
