Leaving millions of his fans and admirers, the noted film director Baapu is no more. He left his mortal frame today in Chennai.Following a massive heart attack, Baapu left his breath at Mallar hospital, said the family members. He is 80 years. Born in 1933 in Narasapuram at West Godavari, Baapu’s original name is Sattiraaju Lakshminarayana. His debu with Saakshi in Telugu film industry was a big sensation as it was considered a first new wave Telugu real cinema.
In his long film career as a writer with Mullapudi and as a director, besides as an artist/cartoonist (both), Baapu has directed nearly 41 films. Baapu’s last film was Sree Raama Rajyam was a supert hit in the modern millennium as well. He has received several awards both from the State of AP and National awards from the Government of India. He has received the first national award for his film Mutyala Muguu. He was also given Raghupathi Venkaiah’s award from the Government of AP in 1986.
He was awarded Padmasri in 2013. Bapu’s letters and arts do not have any parallel in the history of arts and literature. Baapu’s best friend and literary soul mate Mullpoodi Venkatarama passed away while the film Sree Ramarajyam was beeing shot. Afterwards, Baapu’s lone journey in the film and arts world has certainly been quite alone. Telugumirchi places its deep condolences on record on the demise of this renonwned Telugu child of arts which would be remembered for generations to come.
