Chandini is here to stay

Actress Chandini is happy as she is getting good offers in Telugu and Tamil films. Her latest film is Kiraak where she plays a Mahesh Babu fan. “I used to watch all the big stars’ Telugu films on the first day like a fan. I like Mahesh Babu, so it was easy for me to essay this character,” says the actress.

Born and brought up in Chennai, Chandini started her career with Tamil films. “In 2007, when I was in Class XII, I was the second runner up in the Miss Chennai Beauty Pageant and also won the most Photogenic Face award,” says Chandini. She never thought about films as she wanted to complete her education, but she got an offer to play the lead opposite director Bhagyaraj’s son. “So my parents let me do the film,” says Chandini about her entry into movies. Her debut film was released in 2009, after which, she has been getting good offers in Tamil, where she has done woman-oriented roles.

While she was doing Tamil films, Chandini got her Telugu break with Kali Charan which she says is her favourite film. “The film wasn’t released properly so, it wasn’t successful. But I consider it as one of my best,” she says.   Maruthi spotted her and roped her in for a special role in his film Lovers which was released recently.

“I am always selective about my roles irrespective of how big or small the film is,” she says. She adds that her role in Kirak has been greatly appreciated .

Interestingly, Chandini speaks Telugu and Tamil fluently. “Though I was born and brought up in Chennai, my mother is from Andhra. So I speak Telugu at home,” she says. She feels that it’s a big advantage for her to perform, “It is easy for the director to explain the scene and for me to emote well as I know the language,” says the actress.

The actress is shuttling between Chennai and Hyderabad as she has signed a couple of Telugu films and also has a few Tamil films in hand. “I am going to play the main lead in a Maruthi production and have also signed a thriller,” she says.

Chandini wanted to see the historic Charminar, but couldn’t get time as she is quite tied up with assignments. “Coming from Chennai and directly going for shooting, I have no time to see the historic places. I hope in the coming weeks I can take a day off and visit them,” she says.
