This Friday movie-goers have three movies to pick from - Rani Mukerji's Mardaani, dance drama Mad About Dance and Hollywood film The Expendables 3 featuring biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Mardaani, which has been described as Yash Raj Films' boldest film ever, deals with the issue of girl trafficking, carries a message on women's empowerment.
Produced by Rani Mukerji's husband Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner, and directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Mardaani comes across as a raw and gritty tale in which the actress seems to be displaying women power at its best.
Rani playsa cop in the film, she kicks, slaps, runs, punches - everything a Bollywood 'hero' would do. There are no frills to her look - it's simple, understated and suits her role to a T.
In Mardaani, she plays Shivani Shivaji Roy, an officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch unit. Her character seems to be no-nonsense.
Earlier when the film's poster was launched, YRF had said that Rani's character Shivani is "deft at picking up hidden clues and fearless in confronting hardened criminals".
"The film's story takes an interesting curve when a teenage girl is kidnapped by the child trafficking mafia and smuggled outside the city. Shivani then embarks on a relentless hunt for the girl and what follows is a cat and mouse game between the fearless cop and a ruthless mafia kingpin," the statement had said.
Mad About Dance is a dance film. The film is directed by Saahil Prem. The film stars Saahil Prem and Amrit Maghera in the lead roles. Saahil Prem debuted as an actor alongside Sunny Leone in the 2014 film Ragini MMS 2, and is now making his debut as a director with Mad About Dance.
Essentially a dance film, it focuses on the youth, their dreams, anxieties, disappointments and hopes for their future.
American ensemble actioner The Expendables 3, third installment in the franchise, will also release this Friday.
Boasting an all star cast Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Kelsey Grammer, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell, the third installment in the franchise will see the original team join forces with new blood as "The Expendables" take on an old friend turned foe.
