2014 Tollywood: Small Budget Hits!

Sometimes, low budgeted projects create wonders at box office. Despite their simple production values, engaging content and unique story telling by those directors make audiences glue to screens. Even in 2014, we have few films that came out of the blue but impressed audiences big time.

Remakes always worked for Venkatesh in a big way. Many of his past hits are remakes and even this Malayalam thriller Drishyam too did the same thing. Portraying the role of a father with two grown up girl kids, Venky stunned one and all as a cable operator who goes to any extent for saving his family. After a long time producer Suresh Babu reaped profits from his production venture. Drushyam is directed by former heroine Sripriya.

Run Raja Run:

Sharwanand is a talented actor but is not scoring hits at any cost. And the second half of 2014 opened new sunshine and avenues for this talented actor as 'Run Raja Run' became runaway hit. Youtube films director Sujith entertained people in all possible ways with his thrilling romantic comedy. After long time, Sharwa proved his commercial abilities as a hero and producers minted heavy profits.

Despite having so many references to some popular hindi and telugu flicks, Geethanjali is an instant winner at box office for its comedy. Probably this is the first time a horror flick got laced with so many funny scenes. Anjali's double action, Brahmi's antics and rest of the comedy batch engaged audiences with non-stop laughter as debutant director Raj Kiran hits a bulls eye.

Taking a long gap post the success of his small-budgeted Swamy Ra Ra, actor Nikhil once again hit cinemas with another such movie, Karthikeya, directed by newcomer Chandu Mondeti. For its thrilling storyline, nail-biting narrative and awesome visuals, the flick scored a brownie at box office when many biggies failed to entertained audiences at that time. Though the release got delayed, it paid off for producers.

Oohalu Gusagusalade:

No one expects such a romantic fairytale from comedian Avasarala Srinivas. But he mesmerized one and all with his brilliant portrayal of love through lead characters, new comers Naga Shourya and Rashi Khanna. Pure Telugu dialogues and ground-footed scenes are a big catch for the movie, as audiences enjoyed this plain fun movie.
