Tollywood has always been fascinated with double roles. Back in the 60s, double roles were a novelty, and the formula became a hit in the '70s and '80s, with NTR, ANR and Krishna, essaying the roles which the audiences lapped up happily. Be it the identical twins caught in extreme circumstances or lookalikes triggering confusion, the concept allows an actor to embrace the challenge of playing two different personalities at one go. Now, this trend is set to come back with a bang as almost all the top stars in Tollywood are bracing the double role trend. NANI
Nani, who will be seen playing dual characters in his forthcoming film Jenda Pai Kapiraju, went for a buzz-cut for one of the characters. "This is the first double role of my career. When I heard the script, I found it very refreshing. Usually, double roles are about brothers, or father and son, but in my film, it's about two strangers from different states and cultures with an age gap of eight years. There's also a complete contrast in the appearance, dialogue delivery, and body language. For the role where I play the older character, I went for a buzz-cut to show contrast. I think the level of detailing that the director has done for the character makes the dual role special," says Nani. NAGARJUNA
Joining the list of actors to play dual roles is Nagarjuna. The actor will play a double role in his next film to be directed by debutant, Kalyan. "It's a whacky script on the lines of Hello Brother. It'll be set in a rustic backdrop and I'll be seen in a massy yet light-hearted avatar. I'm also going to sport a panche kattu and I'm paired opposite Ramya Krishna for one of the
characters," reveals Nag. PRABHAS
Prabhas is another T-Town superstar, who will be seen in a dual role in his forthcoming film Baahubali. The lanky actor is apparently playing a father and a son in the period drama directed by SS Rajamouli. And this is the first time Prabhas will be essaying a dual role. RAVI TEJA
Fans of Ravi Teja are in for a treat, when they get to see their favourite actor in a dual role in his forthcoming Kick 2, which is directed by Surender Reddy. While the Mass Maharaja earlier essayed dual characters in films like Vikramarkudu and Power, he will be seen essaying the double role of a father and a son in his upcoming action comedy. A source close to the unit says, "Ravi Teja is going for an image makeover and sports a different look for the father's role. Both the characters will be seen sharing screen space in some interesting scenes."
